Just to eliminate the easy stuff, have you tried a different cable between the RC and your phone? Try a reset on the controller? turn on the RC, hold C1, C2, and the record button, then turn off and turn on the RC again to check.

Well then I have to apologize. The thought of disabling the mechanical shutter had crossed my mind (recommended by the community to turn off both mechanical shutter and gimbal lock for doing time lapse photos), but I didn't think it'd be applicable in this case. Could have saved you some time :/

Instead of using just tape, may I suggest something like 3M Dual Lock ( think industrial velcro -- available in clear, too), in case you change your mind on location later and decide you want a "headlight" there at a later time.

Heh. Well with all components working, sure. But it is possible to lose video signal, still have RC control (or for that matter, your app/device to crash,) and not have a display to look at. Just don't expect to be able to use the strobes for orientation a mile out :)

Hard to say. Putting components in sealed containers with some type of desiccant ( dry uncooked rice is a common choice ), or a small room with a dehumidifier is a good first step (and be patient with it). *in my opinion* a good idea to open the shell, have a fan blowing over it working...
