    How far/high have you been

You need to read the regs -- Part 91 for starters. Helicopters are NOT restricted to 500' and yes, hobbyists are restricted to 400'. Read their advisory circular -- last paragraph -- 400'.

    High wind velocity....MPH?

Thank you sir. Is there such a thing as Extreme Wind Warning?? No issues with stability so far.

    High wind velocity....MPH?

Fun place to fly for sure. Sonoran Desert in Arizona about 60 miles east of Phoenix. Surface wind was about 15 but maybe 25 at 100' (sailing downwind in atti mode). Wanted to fly the cliffs but guessing gale force up there and it would have been into the wind coming home. ps. they lock the...

    High wind velocity....MPH?

When flying at Picket Post Mountain we were getting numerous "High wind velocity, Fly with caution" alerts. You can see in the video of our mobile heliport the P4A is pretty unstable. What wind speed triggers the High wind velocity? Read somewhere there is an Extreme alert? Just curious.....

    How far/high have you been

Funny thing...we were experimenting with this yesterday at the lake. It was 700' across the lake to the cliffs we were playing along. Could clearly see the Phantom 4's but if looked down at the monitor was almost impossible to visually find the drone again. At 2,500' impossible even if...

    Am I Legal......

Guess I'm trying to read way to much into Section 336. I'm used to Part 91 and 135 which, as you know, are much more specific. Appreciate the link to AMA guidelines....I go have fun now. Thanks.

    Am I Legal......

I think you are right, however, they say if you're not flying "within" their program follow the FAA guidelines (link provided) which states you must be flying "within" the programing of.....if I'm "within" something I assume I'm a part of it??? You're obviously more well versed on this than me...

    Am I Legal......

I can, and do, follow their guidelines. Had not found the Know Before You Site that LarBear360 provided. Very good information, however, still question the membership thing. Flying "within" seems to say as a part of??

    Am I Legal......

Had not found that site. Good information...thank you. Where does it say I do not have to be a member? Their site says "Operators not operating within the safety program of a community-based organization should follow the FAA’s guidance here." which refers you back to FAA site. The "within"...

    Am I Legal......

Am I legal flying as a hobbyist....I'm not sure. Congress and the FAA say: the aircraft is operated in accordance with a community-based set of safety guidelines and within the programming of a nationwide community-based organization My questions are: 1. Who are the community-based...

This is why we can't have nice things - Drone nearly hits passenger plane landing in New Zealand

Kinda liken VLOS rules to Uber driverless cars. The technology is there but certainly not perfected...safety driver required. Technology is there to fly our UAS out of VLOS but is it perfected? Is VLOS our safety driver? Also you have to remember VLOS was mandated by Congress. Nuff said...

This is why we can't have nice things - Drone nearly hits passenger plane landing in New Zealand

"A flyaway drone (as the thread said) is hardly preventable (in most cases).... " Have to disagree with you sir. I believe most flyaways ARE preventable. Pushing the limits or not understanding the aircrafts systems, whether a UAS or manned aircraft, tends to result in bad things happening...

This is why we can't have nice things - Drone nearly hits passenger plane landing in New Zealand

Shuddered when I read your post.....it is our responsibility to prevent incidents not survive them!!! "Losing one engine is not going to cause a commercial aircraft to crash because they are designed to fly with one engine down." Losing an engine may or may not cause an aircraft to crash but...
