I had the exact same issue when I received my new phantom with the zenmuse already installed by the dealer. It went straight back and they replaced the whole gimbal, never got a technical explanation of what the fault was on the original unit,

I had the same thoughts about twin batteries but run a single Dinogy 2800Mah which fits in the standard P1 without mods. My all up weight with this battery is 1100g and on a good day get 10-12 mins.

My Setup Phantom v1.1.1 Zenmuse Gopro3 FPV transmitter Vision Props With standard battery 10mins. With Dinogy 2800mah 12 mins (16% charge left). The above times were taken last weekend, light breeze, temp around 5c, normal flying.
