+1 for the Walkera.
I flew it for a while without the pitch control. It works fine that way. You can adjust the pitch before you take off and then just fly away. Amazing how good the picture is.
Then, I attached the pitch control. My controller had the lever built in. Everything changed...

I just measured mine and it's exactly 9" to the top of the prop nut. Do you think that would fit? The dimensions say the case is 9.5" but is that outside or inside dimension?
An experienced multi-rotor pilot told me once, "If you ever get into trouble such as nearing a tree, just push hard on the throttle and go up. Going up is your friend as there are fewer obstacles as you go higher." That advice has saved me many crashes.

I bought a pair of carbon fiber shelves that attach between the legs and the body for dual batteries. I'm using the standard props. It was very sluggish and any imbalance in the the Phantom was amplified. I took them off after that flight.
I was able to pick one up on meh.com for $300 a few weeks ago. It's the second time I've seen it show up on meh.com in the last two months. They didn't sell out on that day so I expect it will show up again in the future.
