Why Wont my phantom or rc connect to the assisatnt

Hi all,
Having a blond moment I fear, I haven't had the drone out of the box for a while and I am not sure of the latest version of rc or aircraft assistant, running 3.8 at present but the software will not locate the RC or drone.
Any ideas????
