Why is maximum flight distance reached but my drone only 20 feet high?

The solution to this mystery will probably be found in your recorded flight data.
Go to DJI Flight Log Viewer | Phantom Help
Follow the instructions there to upload your flight record from your phone or tablet.
That will give you a detailed report of the flight.
Come back and post a link to the report it gives you.
Or .. just post the txt file here.
Then someone might be able to analyse it and give you an understanding of the cause of the incident.
Flight distance and altitude are two different things and different settings. Distance is horizontal away from controller. Altitude or height is vertical distance from the take off elevation.
maybe off the mark here. Do you have it in beginner mode? you can set max flight altitude and max distance in the go4 app.

Check to see if the drone is in "Beginner Mode" . I have had this happen with my P4P and MP . That's where I would start .
