UPS tested a home-delivery drone yesterday near Tampa, Florida. The scenario tested was a Horsefly drone taking off from the roof of a UPS truck, delivering a package to the home's front door, and flying back to the truck which has already moved down the street. Packages of up to 10 lbs can be carried by the drone, which has a top speed of 45 mph and a 30-minute flight time.

The article discusses the FAA's demand for safety and concludes there are still problems to be worked out both with the tech and the regulations.

During a second, unofficial demonstration of the HorseFly for UPS on Monday, some sort of interference caused an issue with the drone’s compass. The drone aborted its launch, tried to land on top of the UPS truck, fell to the side and was nearly crushed by the still-closing lid of the vehicle.

I wonder if Amazon's drone delivery service is supposed to be similar?
