Updating Remote Controller using USB memory card

I inserted the USB memory card into the RC after performing the P3 Quad update which was successful.

I turned on the RC with the memory update USB installed but nothing happens except for seeing the red LED and battery indicator LEDs. Does the quad also have to be turned on (can't see why)?

I am using the same update program that was used for the P3 Pro Quad which I assume is correct?

When I launched the DJI GO APP and tried to update the controller it said that it must be done with the USB memory card because the RC firmware was not the latest.

Help please!

Tried it again after deleting the successful update file and now it seems to be updating the RC thru the USB port.

I always do the P3 first, rename the status files, and move to the controller. Then rename that status file. Then transfer everything back to the computer. That way I forever have a record of when and what happened with updates. The renaming might be made mine go so easily
