DO i need to discharge the batteries?

Too late for the OP (I was on a long plane trip myself at the time), but for anyone else traveling by plane ....
Although people on forums often recommend discharging batteries to 50% there is no need to.
Go to your airline's website and search for batteries or Lithium to see their policy.
They are all similar and based on FAA guidelines.
None of them ask you to discharge batteries and none ask for Lipo bags.
No-one at the airport will have any idea what charge level your batteries are and no-one will care because it's just a forum myth.
