Thought this might be helpful for UK owners. I put a pay as you go "3" network sim in my TK102B tracker - doesn't work. Sim had credit, no sim lock, active, etc etc etc

Contacted seller who sent me the list below.

Popped an Orange sim in and all working fine.

Where did you buy it? And is it an original?
I'd like to find a TK102-2-2 as per this link: http://www.jimsgpstracker.com/original- ... _p223.html

I've discovered Xexun's supplier page here: http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I...stinguish+if+the+Device+is+Genuine+or+Not?a=b

Where they say you can check the authenticity of your tracker via http://www.xexun.com but I can't get that site to work just now...

My Phantom 2 just arrived and I took it out today, great fun. Now I think I need this tracker.
Perhaps this is the best source: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251345210718

I would be more tempted to risk this one. http://bit.ly/OzdGB7

Can I ask what sim card you used with this device. Also, what was the best tariff to sign up for. I'm assuming you can track using Google maps ?

Ended up using an Orange sim on pay as you go (99p from Tesco.) Topped up with £10. Each text costs 12p. A shame the "3" sim doesn't work as they are miles cheaper.

Still - it's working fine now.

Nice one. Think I might get one as well. How do you track the device - is it via an apple app or maybe google maps ?

My tracker arrived and after a bit of fiddling with the GiggGaff sim in various locked devices it seemed to come to life in the tracker.
Originally I had it laying on the window sill the wrong way up. I think you need to have it with the logo upwards.

I confirmed that it is a clone/fake as per Xexun's website: http://www.gpstrackerchina.com
I haven't yet managed to setup my iPhone as a authorised number.

For now all I have to do is phone the tracker, hang up straight away and it'll text back.
I can click on the link in the text and it'll show my the tracker location in a window which prompts me to open the Google Maps app.

Now I need to disassemble it to save weight... So there's more research to do there.

I just click on the link on the received text message. :)

Update.

I've now cut it free from it's case but while breaking into the aerial loop section on the top I slightly tore the aerial.
The unit still appears to function OK, but it might have a reduction in signal strength.

Can any existing owner please help me with a simple check:

Send check+password (i.e. 'check123456') and let me know you message that you get back...

I'm getting:

Battery:100%
GPRS: OFF
GPS: ON
GSM: 20

I'm concerned that the 20 is 20%, and that's while the tracker is sat outside on the window sill.

Thanks.

The problem with 3 in the UK is that it is a 3G ONLY network. The TK102 however does not support 3G. It will therefore never work on 3 or any reseller using 3's network, however it will work with all the other major network providers.

BTW old phones also do not work on the 3 network for the same reason.

GPS Tracker TK-102B (Not a UK Compatible SimCard related message)

Hello there,

I have got myself the TK-102B GPS Tracker from this eBay seller, as recommended by another member on the forum:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/161149284995?ss ... 1439.l2649

After reading out about clones and some units giving problems, I was very reticent I must say, but decided to go ahead and follow what other member has done, and I can only say that I am really happy with my purchase.

I know is not the original tracker, but I can not really differ them one from the other, as all the functions seem to work perfectly, and they are both identical. Besides, they are both made in China, the same as our Apple iPhones.

But even better, for those of you using an iPhone, there´s an app called "TK Controller", which allows you to use the most important command through the app by single pressing a button only and just confirm it, instead of memorizing all the commands and write them down as an SMS, or just use templates, like I used to initially.

The app is very well conceived, but a few more improvements would not be badly thought (unfortunately, their customer support do not reply to your messages), other than that, is a great app which I certainly recommend you to use it.

I have actually set up my GPS to go to sleep after 3min, and whenever I need it, I just send the instruction I want to the GPS, and it automatically wakes up and sends me the info. I requested.

I have also found a pay as you go SimCard here in Austria, from Yesss! and it works perfectly.

Have made a top-up of 20€ which can last me up to a year, with no monthly fees, no hidden costs, no top-ups required (within 1 year), or other obligations. Only one of its kind around here I believe, and yet, very good, as it uses the A1 antennas (which has the best network coverage in Vienna).

The messages are charged at 4 Cent/SMS and the Data at 1 Cent/MB. I am quite happy to have followed the other members advise and I am in the position now to certainly recommend it!

So how are you guys fixing these to the Phantom ?

Its heavy and only has the one key ring holder, you need access to the battery or usb port, and the one off button

I am just using a payg o2 sim that works

Pic would be great

thanks

Simon

Hi,

By far the best bargain has to be the sim card from Asda.

£5 gets you 2000 texts for 30 days.

The card is also more responsive in the tracker than my previous lycamobile card which only gave me around 150 texts for the same price and duration. Better performance and a shed load of texts - what are you waiting for :D

The perfet SIM for this is http://www.o2online.de/tarife/o2-o/ , do get it, if you have any chance of getting a German mobile phone contract.
I live in the UK but I am originally from Germany and have several of these. No fixed costs, works even if you don't use it for years, and if you are not in Germany texts are even cheaper then within Germany (one of the marvels of the European Union).
So without any fixed costs, minimum spent, or minimum usage you get a SIM card that works always, if you are not in Germany selects any Network it can get a hold of, and texts are 7 cents... cant really beat that!
