Hi, I have never operated or tried to fly a portable-drone.

Im a professional photographer and makes wedding short videos for my clients. Im thinking to go aerial way for some nice POV shots .

So, Im thinking to buy the Phantom 2 Vision+.

Mostly our events in the night.

I tried this same question in a forum and they got me afraid by showing me those videos,

What I want to ask is, is it really complex to operate a Phantom for a newbie ?

I started off with helicopters. Coaxial then fixed pitch then to collective pitch for about 1.5 years before gettingn a phantom.

Flying the phantom was easy for me due to my previous experience with basic flying like nose in, 3d flying, etc.

With that said, I've let complete newbies fly my phantom in GPS mode and they get the hang of it quickly. Just give yourself well over 50 flights before attempting to fly over people.

Okay good reply!
Thanks, I will keep that in mind.

Whats are the CONS of the phantom 2 ?

The camera on the vision and vision + are bad at night. Not terrible in the day but not great either. I use it for photography but it's nowhere near dslr and bad at night.

The stills are better than a gopro. video is not as good as the gopro 3 black but better than the old gopros.

Looks like, I have to settle with Phantom2 + H3-3D with my GoPro Black3+.

because, Im hearing a lot bad about this new Vision+ camera.

May be we wait for some real review from users, before I settle down ?

And since Im new to this ,
what accessories do you suggest to buy ?

Phantom 2
Zenmus H3-3D Gimbal
GoPro Hero 3 Black +

What else ?

Requirement is totally smooth video footages.
What else do I need to buy ?

I think, I can simply use the GoPro app on iPhone to see whats its shooting ?
Correct ?

What is the DJI iPhone app ? What does that do ? Is it only for Vision and Vision+ camera eye ?

You can't really use the go pro app. The wifi messes with the quad.
I hear it works for 30 feet or so but that's it.

Basically if you want stills get the vision. For video the vision is good the gopro is better but to do the gopro right you need to spend about $1800 ish. Get a kit with first person view pre installed. This fpv for the go pro is not wifi it's just one way video.

1. Ouch! So, everyone who uses p2 with GoPro 3 spends an extra 1800$ again ? What all accessories are they ?
Where can I read the details and about its setup ? Sounds complex!

2. What do you mean by, "fpv for the go pro is not wifi it's just one way video" ??

Oh no. $1800 total. Phantom, gimbal, and fpv system included.
There are many types of fpv systems out there.
Bh photo has a lot if kits ready to go.

Only additions I see is,

32 Channel 5.8 GHZ 600 mw Digital Video Transmitter
7” FPV Monitor w/ Charger
Carbon Fiber Monitor to Radio Mount

So, those 3 items cost like 800$ ? Really ?

because P2 + H3-3D is just 950$ only.

800 seems like a lot for that. They are charging for labor on installing some of that but it does seem high. On the other hand all fpv systems have different specs and prices. I don't know what those components cost on their own.

If you're handy, you can put the stuff together yourself and save money. There are probably kits out there that are cheaper.
Bh photo is also a good vendor.

Got a link from BH, which you would recommend ?

I got a quote from a thailand vendor. See this PDF,
http://cl.ly/3b0U313c3h2w

Is it everything, we need ?
He is offering this for 1650$.

I only see, he is offering H3-2D, while I need H3-3D.
Apart from that, si everything else perfect ?

It does not come with a monitor, just a video transmitter and receiver.
That other kit has the video receiver built into the 7 inch monitor.

So not only would you have to buy more stuff from this vendor but the monitor separate from the receiver is just more components to deal with and more batteries to charge.

Very confusing.

Why the heck. phantom dont make identical camera as GoPro Black 3.

The FPV thing is what I need in one ready to go package and Vision+ does the job, but again, I dont want to compromise with the camera quality :(

Agreed.
Then again what I really want is something to put my 5diii in the air but that's big bucks.

Yes!

But Im okay with GoPro Hero3 Black+ even, sadly Phantom is not making a 100% product yet. Because, I really need to have guts to let my 5D Mark3 flying without mtg support, lol.

If the camera in Vision+ is not close to Black+, then the release is a big fail :(

Here's the breakdown of that quote:
Phantom 2 ($869 on B&H)
H3-2D Zenmuse (included in $869 price)
2 x Phantom 2 batteries (included in $869 price)
GoPro Hero 3+ Black ($399 anywhere really)
DJI 5.8 GHz Transmitter + Receiver ($209 off aerial media pros, i didn't look real hard for a better price)
Prop Guards ($19 off B&H)
a 7" monitor that doesn't have built in receivers (Does that monitor have an internal battery or external? I would ask) (with no receiver, you could get a similar monitor off ebay for call it $110)
Mount for LCD to transmitter ($19 average price)
Cable for GoPro to connect to transmitter ($10?)
1 Day training (interesting...) (what value is this to you??)
DJI Phantom Flight case (Maybe $199???)

Total cost buying everything yourself separately: Approximately $1,834.

That looks on the surface to be a good deal. IF that is DJI direct, expect zero customer service and if you have to return it, you will get frustrated.

(Please note that is not the Phantom 2 Vision+ per your subject)
