Starting motors problem

I turn on controller then quad then iPad .Motors won't start , turn quad off and on again, then motors start ! Any ideas appreciated .

It is the only way I can start the motors every time, probably 12 times.
Noticed aircraft status shows red dot - system error
Also red "need update" which I thought l had done as when dji go app starts banner on top says"Phantom 3 standard firmware downloaded"
