Software upgrade on control box

I bought my P2V around the first of March this year. I upgraded the Phantom software yesterday. When I check the assistant software it says all is updated which is what is should say after I upgraded. My question is: how does it know my control box is upgraded? I had I turned on with wifi. Did it read it thru the quad when it was connected with USB? If it ever needs upgrading what are the procedures?

The controller (transmitter) must be plugged in and updated the same way the Phantom gets update.

Instructions say connect mini USB to controller on bottom. They didn't sat that you must remove cover on box and find USB, no USB connections on outside of box. You would think with outside connect on phantom their would be one on controller. Anyway it said software was up to date as it did on assist software. I did calibrate the sticks as they were off just a little. Hopefully this will correct the little drifting I'm getting.

On they Vision you remote you should see a micro USB port, if not its inside of it
