It's there any REASONABLE way of mounting the gopro in it's protective case under the phantom? I am having an irrational fear of placing the hero 3 in the phantom mount unprotected. Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

If you want to use a gimbal you will probably need to go naked anyway.
If using the protective case, make sure you film in upside down mode. Go to capture settings to do this.
I'm not sure I understand the question. All you do is put the GoPro in it's case, flip it upside down and attach it to the bottom of the phantom on the stock mounting point. I fly like this when it's foggy or generally wet.

Rilot - It wasn't until I saw your post that I realized I was overcomplicating things. I attached the case to the DJI stock mount. Thanks.
