Is this something that is still available to use or has it been discontinued??

It's still there. I use it to practice orbit and home-lock.

To get there, launch GO. Once you get to the Connect Your Device screen tap the three bars in the upper right corner. Then tap Academy. You will see Simulator. Tap Enter.

Note: You need the controller and aircraft powered up and connected just as you would a flight. For safety, it's recommended that you remove your props before powering up.

One other tip I heard was to aim a small fan at the gimbal as it does heat up just sitting there.
