Is there a simulation program I can run with the phantom 3? I am a first timer and I would like to practice first before I crash this expensive puppy.

The Pilot app comes with a Simulator built in, just connect as per the instructions but leave the props off. You can fly as much as you want to get practice without lifting off the ground. Go to the User Center from the home screen and select to 'help' flag at the top right to get to the simulator.
