Return to still camera after taking video

I have had my P3 for a few months and am having a problem taking still photos after shooting a video.
I know you cannot take a still shot while videoing, but how do I get it back to the camera mode?

Push video button to exit video. Push camera button to take still.

You would think that would work and i have tried. I exit video mode and the camera wont take stills!
