retracable landing skids

Hi , I have recently fitted retracable landing skids on my phantom 1, I have had to remove the original landing gear which housed the compass and the two aerials, I have cut and shortened one leg to re fit the compass,
Is there any reason why the aerials need to be fixed to anything or can I leave them loose hanging from the quad or will this cause loss of signal if they are not fixed to the Quad ? ? any help or advice please guy's

mine have been hanging loose for a few flights now & not noticed any issues, but i don't fly that far away anyway (upto 500metres)

thanks very much, I didn't see any difference either , but you know how these things can go wrong very quickly thought I would check and see if anyone else had any problems , thanks for the reply,
