Question on my first Ground station mission

My first autonomous flight worked great, but of course I lost video feed from phantom 30 seconds into flight. My question is why does it not gain connection when it gets back in close range? Is this normal?

make sure your phone isn't connecting to another access point after the phantom goes out of range. the phone won't reconnect to the bird if it's already connected to another network.

I bet my phone was picking up house wifi or had mobile data turned on

I have a wifi obd2 in my car that I use to see engine data when I am driving. I have to unplug it when I go fly or the phone will connect to it when it loses the phantom connection. Then I have to go into settings and reconnect to the phantom instead of the car. Technology, gotta love it.

That's exactly why I just got a Bluetooth ELM327. ;-)
