PV connected with iPad mini

Post 1 of 2. I changed the clip with my own mount. This is a Magellin iPhone 4 GPS mount. When I find one i'll use a regular universal. It's attached to the ball and socket bracket that comes with the Phantom 2 Vision.

this setup works well. Has anyone found an
effective sunshade so you can see the iPad mini
in the sun?

Thanks to info from "rmklaw" I now have my Nexus 7 connected to my TX. I've ordered two more parts to try a slightly different holder, but they probably won't be here until later in the week.

Here's the final assembly. The weight pulls it a bit to the left, but it's not horrible...

This is where the "Nootle" tripod connector connects to the 1/4 - 20 threads on the back of the "SeaSucker"

Not the best solution, but I have two of these "Nootle" units screwed together. One fits the ball on the original smartphone bracket and the other holds the ball for adjustable attachment to the Nexus.

This is what goes in my case now.

Thanks again to "rmklaw" for all his information and pointing me in the right direction. I think I found the same unit he's using that would attach to the existing bracket and wold be a bit easier to handle than what I've got set up now. I also found another holder that might be a bit more secure than the "SeaSucker" (though it looks like it's pretty **** secure in its own right), easier to deal with and wold allow attaching the Nexus to the TX, Nexus case and all...

I'll update when the other parts come in...

I was finally able to find that part that RMKLAW used on his setup (page three on this thread) and it' makes a huge difference. You can even, very quickly and easily, take it off of the standard ball mount and replace it with the original smartphone clamp in only a minute or so.

I'm just not totally sold on the SeaSucker for this application and have a different rig coming tomorrow. I think that one's going to do it. When I have it installed I'll post some pix...

Thanks, again, RMKLAW...

I have been following these posts with interest. Good stuff! Someone asked about screen shades for ipad mini.... I saw this the other day in a different thread but it may be what you are looking for: http://www.hoodivision.com (note how they differentiate between a mini shade and ipad or ipad air shade. For ipad mini, you want the hoodimini v. Hoodi convertible)

Hi SkyhighDiver,
This look interesting and not seen that before but I'm finding it a little hard to quiet see how the mount is attached to the transmitter. Do you mind taking a couple of extra clearer photos please? Would help greatly...

It seems like a well balanced solution compared to others I've seen where it is bolted to the side of the transmitter by attaching to the iPhone holder

Okay... I wound up with exactly the same set up as RMKLAW. And now I'm sold on the SeaSucker. This solution works great.

Like the ideas but I did not want to fix the weight of the ipad to the transmitter itself? I wanted them to be together on a lightweight platform, not interfering with each other and able to be detached in seconds.
It was time to get out the dreaded MDF!

Now flight tested and very pleased :D

Great idea - you have inspired me to retreat to the shed / man cave to make one this evening - many thanks! :D

The GoPro helmet mount is mounted by adhesive tape. I can see how that would work well on a smooth surface like a helmet but would be a bit concerned about rough and irregular surfaces. In SkyHighDiver's case, he's mounted it right over the raised DJI logo on the controller which is great for center balance but I've got to wonder how forgiving the 3M tape is on that type of surface.
