Problems after failed update

I just tired to do an update on my Phantom 3 Standard via the DJI Go app as requested. The update failed and when I tried again I could not get the Phantom wifi to appear on my phone. I noticed the controller main light was red which supposedly indicates that it is not linked to the Phantom, however it is linked as I can move the gimbal and even start the motors using the controller and the link light on the Phantom is green . However I am not getting any wifi from the controller to the phantom so I cannot retry the update. I am stuck any suggestions.

Yes I had just updated the DJI go app which is why it then wanted me to update the firmware.. I have tired resetting the WIFI link but no joy even though the controller responds correctly with a flashing main light, it just goes on forever until turned off. I have sent an email to DJI support so lets see what happens on Monday when they get back to work!

I contacted DJI Support via email to seek their advice. They responded next day with an email referring me to the EU support in Holland. After sending them log files etc, They said they would need to see the product so I have returned the aircraft and controller to my supplier RC Geeks. Watch this space.

Well having sent it back to RC Geeks they quickly confirmed that there was nothing apparently wrong with the aircraft or the remote. They were able to connect their phone (iphone) to the kit and carry out the update. In the meantime ANOTHER update for the DJI Go app came out (Version 2.8.0) so I asked them to update to this in case there was another problem. This they did and then at my request sent the kit back to me. They did all this for no charge including the return delivery by 24 hr courier. That's what I call service. It was obvious that the problem was with the updated app in my phone (HTC one). so I uni-stalled the app and reinstalled the latest (2.8.0) to match the update done on the aircraft and remote. When I first tried it all out I was only getting an intermittent WIFI connection. It was still the app I was sure, so I uninstalled again but this time checked through the file structure of the phone and found tons of crap left behind by the DJI app in 5 different folders. I manually deleted all evidence of the DJI app and then downloaded the latest version and installed. Bingo everything connected. I did a 20 minute test flight this morning took photos and video. Used GPS, ATTI and F mode with Home Lock and RTH all working properly. The log showed no problems.

It seems therefore that the issue was all down to the rubbish way that the DJI Go app updates on an Android phone. I would advise not updating but doing a clean install if needed or better still if it ain't broke don't fix it. I will not be updating anything else soon!!

I am a firm believer in this (clean install). I have had numerous apps misbehave after an update, and still misbehaving after an "unclean reinstall" of the app.
Then after a clean install, the app (including my DJI Go app) work correctly.
IMHO, the correct method for a clean reinstallation of an app is;
1) Go to your device's app manager and find the app.
2) Click on Clear Cache.
3) Click Force Stop
4) Uninstall the app
5) Shut device off and leave it off for a minute.
6) Turn device on and reinstall the app.

I completely agree with mdowney58 on the procedure he outlines, however I would warn that even this procedure does leave a lot of files from the DJI Go app which can only be deleted by manually editing the file system. This is obviously potentially dangerous if you are not familiar with the Android file system so beware.
