I haven't had much chance to fly because of cold weather and snow.
There is about 2 inches of loose snow on top of a crust. I don't want to land
gimbal / camera in snow.

I would like to practice low level close range flight in non-gps in my backyard. But may have to land in snow if
unable catch it. Rather than buy another drone for practice.

What do you guys think about removing the camera / gimbal for this?

If it's a P3, I don't recommend it. Hand-catch instead.

Hand catch. I do it all the time. Watch the online vids. It's easy.
