Hopefully an easy question. Is the DJI pilot software compatible with the p2 (non vision) ? If so what additional kit do I need (assuming I've got the gimbal and go pro ).

Nope.
However you can take the alternative route (which I have).
Purchase the Phantom 2 Vision Plus - sell the camera and gimbal and purchase a $10 DJI cable and then do the mod on the link provided.

OR if you aint tech savvy, get a $400 DroneExpert quick release system.
