made my best run with my Phantom 3 standard today!
Made it back with 30% batteries
Had a head wind going out. I think it will do 5 miles on a calm day

External batteries
DBS antennae mounted on a FPVcustoms mount
5.8 amp
2- 2.4 amps
2 battery packs to power the amps

I had full signal strength but when I took the screen shot I had the antenna pointed at the ground

Antenna was from DBS mods
Amps from fpvlr.com
Batteries from FPVcustoms
I modded a FPVcustoms antenna mount to use the DBS flat panel
These picture only show one 2.4 amp but I am running two 2.4 amps one 5.8 amp
And two battery packs
This setup works!
I believe even though I'm running external batteries that the batteries are going to be my limiting factor. I still had full signal strength at 4 miles

Yeah I think about 10-11 miles seems to be max for a round trip given battery technology. Would be nice to have a long straight road where you could just go all out for max range & have a friend following along in a car to recover the aircraft. Nice setup & great range.
