Hi all :)

I'm about to dip my toe into the quadcopter pond and could do with some advice. I run a structural engineering consultancy in Western Australia specialising in building diagnostics and remediation (ie working out why a structure failed and how to fix it). I can see a quadcopter being extremely useful for aerial roof surveys and the like.

I was initially considering the Phantom 2 Vision+ due to the in-flight camera controls, but reports regarding its fragility have made me somewhat wary. I'm now leaning towards something like the AMP Ag Pro Scout Kit or the DSLRPros Cannes Cinema Edition P2 Aerial Kit with a GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition. These kits are fairly similar and both offer waypoint navigation (which would be handy for my intended use) but have a few differences, which is where I could use some advice:

  • Futaba 14SG vs Futaba D8FG radio ... any significant differences when used with a Phantom 2?
  • DSLRPros "Anti-Gravity Motors" ... worthwhile upgrade over stock or marketing fluff?
  • 2.4GHz Bluetooth uplink for waypoint navigation ... both have it, but I've only found vids of them used with the iPad Ground Station app on Youtube. Can I use the PC Ground Station app on my Win 8.1 Surface 2 Pro instead? Is the lack of GPS on the Surface 2 Pro a deal-breaker?
  • AMP vs DSLRPros ... general consensus re product quality / customer service?
  • Integrated 5.8GHz FPV video feed vs 2.4GHz DJI Lightbridge ... Lightbridge isn't an option on either of those kits, but is it worth investigating? Does it have any other advantage over the 5.8GHz feed other than being 1080p? I suspect the standard (and much cheaper) 5.8GHz will be fine for my use.

Anything else that I should be considering that I haven't? Note that I'm not limiting my choice to the two kits I mentioned above - they just provide a good baseline for me to work off, given my present lack of knowledge :p
