about the California arrest discussion, I live in Texas, traveling in Europe & received a NOTAM email about no flying in the area of the fires. Must be an option with FAA to sign up for these?

Go to www.faasafety.gov and create an account. Once inside you'll be able to set up EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS. From there you designate which notifications you want and TFR etc is an option.
