I think you mean the S2 switch (lefthand side?). S1 is for setting the flight modes

It has three functions, that's it.
Relinking RC with AC.
Resetting wifi password.
Getting the RTH to work when the app is not doing it.

In the back of my head, I was also wondering the same thing. It used to be that the S2 allowed you to select HL and CL modes (on the older Phantoms, I think). But now, a 3-way toggle switch seems unnecessary when a single button would've sufficed.

What so inelegant about a three position toggle switch? It's a functioning radio control not a fashion statement.

The word elegance can be applied to mathematically formulae, aspects of design or a scientific experiment. For example you could argue that 3 buttons for 3 functions would be more "elegant". It has nothing to do with aesthetics in this context. But thanks for the input.
