No internet at activation screen

So I just purchased a new p3s and downloaded the dji go app, the problem is when I get to the last step in the activation process it says I dont have internet to register the drone. I have an htc desire 510. I suspect it has to do with the phone dropping internet from my data plan and tries to use the wi-fi from the drone which of course wont work. Is there any kind of work around? or am I missing something? Thanks.
 
when you get to this point you have to switch from Phantom's Wi-Fi to regular Wi-Fi to register , then switch back to Phantom's Wi-Fi , it's not explained well in the manuals and is annoying
1. connect to Phantom
2. start registering process
3. switch Wi-Fi sources , finish registering
4 connect back to Phantom

Yep I did try that, even when I switch to my home wi-fi it still gives me the no internet error. I checked my browser and can surf the net no problem but the app tells me no internet. :(
