The big problem is the power of fear and ignorance.
People that are scared of drones, don't know drones - they know myths.
These myths are exciting and scary so the media love to spread them and dopey lawmakers love to respond to them.
To dispel these myths the Small UAV Coalition should be active taking drones to influential but misguided journalists and lawmakers to take them flying and give them some hands-on experience and dispel a lot of their fears so that we can get more realistic laws and reporting.
Now there's a good gig for someone .. being a drone ambassador.

Pay and qualifications - whatever gets negotiated.
I'm serious .. instead of moaning about bad press and restrictions that make no sense the Small UAV Coalition (all the big players in small drones) http://www.smalluavcoalition.org/ should really be focusing on this.
At the moment the story is that small drones are dangerous or are invading privacy.
We know this is complete nonsense but in a world driven by fear and ignorance, that story is too powerful and the media are going to keep running with it. Lawmakers are going to keep making kneejerk reactions to myths.
Having people personally taking congressmen, journalists etc flying and showing how safe, useful, to say nothing of how much fun these things are, would have to be the best way to fight the danger and privacy myths that make people fear personal drones and the Small UAV Coalition would be the best people to drive this. It's a huge opportunity to bring some facts into the debate,

Aerialtronics, Airware, Amazon Prime Air, DJI, Drone Deploy, EHANG, Google [X], GoPro, Hazon Solutions, Kespry, Parrot, PrecisionHawk, Sky-Futures, SkyWard & 3DR.
Everyone and his dog is in Washington doing the standard lobbying.
These guys should also be getting out to the people that matter and giving them one-on-one, hands-on experience of real drones so they can see beyond the myths and fear.
These things sell themselves and people just need to experience them rather than be told powerful fearmongering myths over and over.

It starts out as a story of how green the red center (Central Australia) has become after recent rains,as captured from a quads eye view,and very quickly becomes a story bashing quads from a point of ignorance.
Typical of the Australian media who will print or telecast anything they are told but will never fact check anything.
There are no rules against flying in a national park in Australia.
There is no obligation to seek permission from rangers prior to flying.If you were to try seeking permission in some areas,especially in the outback,it would be almost impossible to find a ranger and if you saw one you would find that like in my experience they will actively hide from you unless they are seeking revenue.
Also,I have sort permission to fly in a outer Sydney National Park while at their office applying for an unrelated permit and they told me to go for my life,no worries.
As bad as it is with the media hype and the goverment wanting to do any thing that can to promote hysteria againts drones.
all its will take is for the very first incident were a citizen uses a drone to expose corruption weather it be catching the goverment doing some thing they dont want any one to see. or catching a politishion doing some thing scandalus and corrupt or even catching police brutality on film. Then its bye bye drones by morning or by the next week tops.
Which is why they really fear drones as much as they fear informed citizens with cell phone camera and a utube accounts more then they fear any thing else. Just like how any cockroach dont like light tyrants and corrupt cockroach dont even like the thought of any thing that can even possibly ever some day expose the crap they do to daylight.
Just look at how the nut bag globalist scumbag Dianne feinstein only a few days after being in congress talking about how great and wonderful it would be and how every one should be so grateful to allow the goverment to start using drones to spy on and also to even use them to murder American citizens with out any proof or evidence they committed any crimes is some how supposed to make us all happy our goverment loves and cares for us all enough to spy on every law abiding man women and child 24/7. even snuff us for out own good and protection. THEN not even 1 week later she was flipping out and livid that some one dared fly a toy drone near here window to protest her stance on drones and she was calling for all civilian drones to be banned that very same day. Or how when she was saying how great it is that the nsa and fbi spy on every single citizen then was livid when she found out they were spying on her and the other criminals she consorts with as well.
