New tracker for iphone users

Aren’t these things the same as the Tile “trackers” with very limited range?

Unless they put some Occusync 3.0 in there these are nothing more than a tile which by the way is a joke.
As long as you within about 10 ft of the item you have lost your good, but put a wall in the way and no go for the tile.

These Apple things are Bluetooth responders, like Tile. BT has very limited range, so these trackers are worthless for finding lost drone. There are mobile phone based GPS trackers that can be useful as long as you are flying in areas with decent cell phone service. They report their GPS location coordinates when queried, and can report to a website that shows the location on a map. However they are worthless if the tracker can't connect to a cell tower.

Exactly, this is BLUETOOTH, not a GPS tracker. Unless you, or someone else running the app gets close enough (within Bluetooth range) it's worthless. This is just like TILE, only with Apple marketing and extra bells and whistles. Also, these do not connect directly to the cell tower, they connect to a smartphone's app.

The one big difference with the Apple tag is that it works with the ‘Find Me’ functionality built into Apple devices. So if anyone with a ‘Find Me’ enabled device comes into BT range of your lost tag (drone) it sends a silent message notifiying you of its location. Wherever people are carrying Apple devices increases your chances of finding your tag. It’ll be interesting to see how it works in practice.
