what would you recommend? don't want to spend a small fortune and ideally want something light and plug and play...not to much setup required.

You basically have two options
-The Tarot, which requires an extra mounting bracket to fit the Phantom, runs around $200 total.
but it's solid and works great.
-or for less, you could get a goodluckbuy gimbal for close to $100, but comes with no documentation of any kind, and has it's quirks.

the Tarot is arguably more plug-n-play tho, especially if you buy one pre-assembled (some vendors sell them like that)

But all gimbals require a bit of learning

The Tarot is what I have, some parts did not come with it, but I made my own. It is the most cost effective but requires more work to install and put together. The support is not that great also. If I had to do all over it was still worth buying over the $700 gimbal.

You can mount to the shell but I made a mount to use the stock screw holes.
