Metal and RC...

Is there any issue with having metal in the vicinity of the RC or just with the AC itself? Reason I ask is I'm using a tripod to hold the RC and there is a bolt and washer directly underneath the RC to hold a platform for the RC to rest on.

No in reference to the controller as you described.

As far as the a/c... ferrous metal in close proximity can cause compass issues typically reported as interference in the app.

Metals do affect RF signals. I won't sit inside a car and fly my drone. Standing on a steel platform may not affect RC performance compared to when you are surrounded by a metal cage like inside a car.

Compass of tablet and aircraft also get affected by magnetic material like iron and cobalt.
