Just opened my phantom.... and I have 2 layers of copper, shielding my GPS... has anyone seen this? I did send it to DJI in July for repair.... Should I still do the foil mod? Installing my Fytrex Core 2 now... I don't get too many SATs where I fly....

Post a photo so we can see what you're describing.

I have the same shielding and I drop satellites. I am doing the foil mod. I have stuff ordered and it is on it's way!

that's the standard V2 GPS shielding.

That's an older style shield. Here's what the version 3 shielding looks like:

If interested, here are the steps to do the copper foil shield:

msinger, if there was a member of the month or year I would without a doubt give you my vote. You are the man on providing details.

As for the tutorial in your link, I always like having the battery installed when I put the covers together. It seems to help the battery slide in & out better if you do it that way. Also, I of coarse would have mentioned placing something in the gps plug connector as well.

Keep up the great link posting!

Thanks to you all.... I am not done, but did the foil mod using metal tape from Lowes ($8.00)... Powered it up and got an immediate 9 (Nine) satelites, inside my house, I have never even gotten 1 ever before from inside.... Still taking the time to re-route my antenna wires, camera and compass wires... I really don't like how DJI has them all tied to the power and/or grounding of the ESC units....

Make that you use packing-non-conducting tape over the top of the metallic tape. This will stop shorting.
