The 1926 railway line expansion plan envisaged the creation of a line linking Talavera de la Reina, in Toledo, with Villanueva de la Serena, in Badajoz. The works began in the 1920s, bringing infrastructure such as stations, bridges and viaducts to the region. However, the war and the progress of the roads, together with the depopulation of the fields during the development, made the project economically unfeasible, causing the abandonment of the works. The whole esplanade was already built, with its stations ready to receive the tracks (except some 20km of Villuercas section). However, this line never saw a train pass, although new travelers did arrive, following its recovery as Vía Verde.

The Greenways are old disused railroad tracks prepared for cycling and hiking. They are accessible and easy itineraries, barely pending and far from motorized traffic.

The Greenway runs through the Tajo river valley through the Azután reservoir and places of great environmental value such as the El Arco meadow, the Huso and San Martín valleys and the Altamira mountain range. Next to the Mediterranean forest of the first section, the jarales, the slate landscape and the granite bowling formations mark the second part of the route that is not visible in the video.

Nice video and well done. Too bad the railroad never got finished. A steam locomotive going over that bridge with the reflective water would have been a fantastic view.

Yes, it's very stupid but usual in this country (Spain), to expend a lot of money in something that is not going to be used.

Agree that a steam locomotive reflection over the water will look awesome but ...... At least we can walk through the bridge

Thanks you very much for so nice words about the video!!
