Idea for ultimate range

I cannot be the only person to think of this.
Why couldn't a drone be controlled by cellular signal. It would offer practically unlimited range.
Obviously the hardware would be purpose built, but using AT&T or Verizon's network. It would only have to send some signal/numbers for the stick positions. And a low quality video back.
 
Lag, signal handoff and no/poor cell signal would be 3 that I would think cause an issue.

I know if you look at a cellular coverage map it looks like almost the whole country has coverage but there are many areas that either have no coverage or areas that have micro dark zones.

I'm not a cellular engineer so maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

The linked article is interesting but they purposefully flew along a route that had cellular signal rather than flying from 1 random point to another random point.

2 of my kids live in completely different areas of a major urban center. At one house you can not use your phone in the front yard of the house for a block in either direction but the backyard is fine. At the other house the reverse is true.
