idea for flotation landing gear

I live near water, and once I get my Phantom, I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of flying over coastal areas and ocean. I was wondering...what if there was a landing gear that consisted of thin plastic spikes in each corner, with large, lightweight, low-density styrofoam spheres, maybe four or five inches diameter, attached (sort of like pincushion fashion)? Would that work for land-based landings, and would it help the Phantom float if it made an unscheduled water landing?

thanks, some of those look like they work quite well.

In thinking more about it, I wonder if those "air pillow cushions" that are used for shipping padding would work. Like these things: http://www.storopack.com/uploads/tx_tem ... _II_06.JPG

Maybe strapped to the landing gear?
