I recently bought an old Phantom 3 Standard. Nothing but issue after issue.

I suppose the most prevalent one, is that the drone refuses to take off. It tries to lift but simply tips. Any ideas?

It says different things about low voltage, the app permanently says aircraft disconnected, it doesn't appear that the calibrate does anything, auto take off is a no go, so on, so forth.

Can anyone help me? I'd be forever grateful.

Welcome to the forum!

Last thing to do mess with the FIRMWARE

At the moment stay on this thread, many others will ask many questions, etc.

Thank you for your reply Rod. I might have messed with the firmware if I knew what I what was. I've been scouring the web for days now trying to figure this out.

Sitting tight.

I also assume, you have no user manual.
Check out @msinger help sight.

This link should take to the right bird.

What made you touch firmware before knowing it actually works, updates not mandatory but I can say DJI locked one of mine from not updating till I did it,but most of the time new firmware not needed if everything works like it should.
Low voltage -- always start with full battery, either got bad cells or needs a charge up and the tipping as in tipping over-- make sure props on right way but dont fly till its conected in app as it displays info of what's going on,
All lights green in rc, what color is drone rear arms flashing ?
Pictures worth thousand words and help with diagnosing what's goin on
Good luck
And just add no one telling you off about firmware, it's pretty common to try it first to fix underlying issues but dont always fix a fault or unseen damage if history unknown 👍

Any updates , did you succeed 👨‍🔧

Try calibrating the IMU. That worked for me when mine would just tip over.

Update:

I did some reading on the site @RodPad suggested and did everything the right way. Out in the field to calibrate instead of in the house etc. everything seems to be running fairly smoothly now. I think that was the main issue, the calibration. It still keeps telling me I should put my battery in the oven, but I'm skeptical. Wrapped in a towel on the radiator will suffice.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I wouldn't have known where to begin without the information provided.

Thanks for the update. Good to hear it's sorted out.

What is telling you to put the cold batteries in the oven? Have never heard that from an official source.

( BTW, they make drone battery warmers for colder climates. )

Here in Florida, I use frozen gel packs to keep the batteries cool during the hot humid summer months. I just keep the gel packs in the cooler with other adult beverages to keep the drone pilot (me) cool. 😂

I did the classic WebMD on the drone before I found this forum, luckily for me I have more than a few braincells left. I don't think the oven is the best idea. It's been regularly -5°C here in Scotland, 23°F or there abouts. So keeping the batteries warm is a struggle but they're usually okay if I warm them before I go out to fly. The 3 don't cool in the time it takes to drain them all.

It keeps telling me? You mean the all knowing, infinite knowledge of the inter web? How could you go wrong? Keep my batteries warm in an insulated Bag/box.

Keeping the batteries in a small cooler with some uninsulated water bottles filled with hot water is my go to for cold weather flying.

On cold days, I keep my batteries warm in coat or pant pockets and do not insert them into the drone until I am ready to start the motors.

If you regularly fly in cold weather, you might want to calibrate the IMU outside on a cold day (in a garage etc) to decrease the ‘IMU warming up’ time. It kind of defeats the
purpose of warming a battery beforehand only to have it sit in the cold as the IMU warms up.
