We rode our bikes over to "The Wedge" (a famous surfing and bodysurfing hot spot) in Newport Beach, Orange County, California to check out the massive waves from Hurricane Marie.

I mistakenly only brought two of my three batteries, but I got some great views of the waves and the spectators watching the body surfers.

We plan on going back tomorrow morning early to see the actual surfers (you know, on surfboards) who have to be out of the water by 10 AM.

These are straight out of my P2 Vision+. (Be sure to watch on 1080P HD and full screen.) :D

There were at least 3 to 4 other Phantoms out there and 2 other types of quadcopters.

Some great footage there! I highly recommend getting a vimeo account. It natively plays in 1080, without having users switch from 720(though, annoyingly, you have to enable this after upload).

Where do you do this? I have a plus account because I hate having users manually enabling HD.

Awesome footage! Those waves are huge! I was just there filming with my Phantom 2 weeks ago but the waves were much smaller of course.

When you go back tomorrow, please post the footage; would love to see it! BTW, why do the surfers have to be out of the water by 10am?

Thanks. :) I shot a lot more this morning and I just finished editing together a video with music. I'll be uploading it soon and I'll post here again.

It's just a law that was enacted to protect the bodysurfers. Somehow they were able to get the city to pass an ordinance that there are no "boards" allowed at The Wedge from 10 AM to 5 PM during the warmer months of the year.

There are plenty of other surfing spots, so I guess the surfers don't mind that much. The ban has been in effect for about 20 years.

After you upload, go to video settings, click on the "Video File" tab. Then you can see the options under Upgrade this video. It's annoying that you can't just set it to always default to highest... but it's better than knowing no viewer is ever seeing your video in full quality.
