I understand that homelock is to bring the phantom on a straight line back to pilot and then when reaching course lock circle should deviate one way or the other. Twice now when activating home lock, my phantom has come straight back to me but then passes right over my head to the back of me and the course lock circle. Is my understanding wrong. I did calibration before I started and did not move from where I took off.

Chances are that the Phantom was pointing directly away from you and when it reached the CL radius, it happened to lock on the same course.
