Would really like to tone down that bright white on the transmitter, use something darker. Anyone done this? Talking about the body only, of course, not antenna or controls. Would painting the body interfere with the signal in any way, or as long as the antenna remains as is, I'd be good to go?

They have these all over Amazon in different patterns and different colors, and would probably look a lot better than some paint job.

If you want to take it to the extreme, you could do something like these (not a Phantom controller ofc, but you get the idea):
