gimbal- camera-lens filter-interference

Just Installed h3-3d on phantom-2 and have the gopro3 camera installed as well. Everything works great! But often when shooting video into the sun or at angle that require a polaroid filter or ND filter on the front of the GoPro to get a reasonable image. The off the shelf filters are large diameter and when installed are big enough to severely limit the range of motion of the h3-3d. Has anyone found compact filters that work with gimbal? or any homebrew filter solutions? or any luck using software to limit motion of the gimbal? Thanks for your help. Dan
