Seems great they have the FAA exemption, but if pilots are independent contractors, wouldn't they also need their own exemption?

Currently that would seem to be the case.

Seems like a deal breaker to me. If I went through the trouble of getting the exemption, I certainly wouldn't be giving these guys 20%. If I was able to just fly for them as an average joe and be covered by their exemption, that's a totally different story.
