Being very wary at his point.
Got weak signal warning at about 1.2ks

This one is my backyard
Was too careful of the power lines and landed in long grass

Very nice videos.
You should get better range than that - I can reach 2.6km standard at a height of about 120m. Either you were too low or the structure you were standing by was blocking signals? Aerials need to be parallel and pointing vertically.
Try hand catch/land it is much safer.
Windsurfers or similar will improve your range.

I live in a little sea side place called Bangalee 8ks north of Yeppoon in Central QLD
Gets warmish in Summer but great warm winters

I'm thinking 2 storey house and power line interference plus I only just read that the flat part of the antenna should face the plane.
