I just wanted to make sure since manuals don't tell you anything, when I go to download firmware to either my phantom or the transmitter, are they supposed to be powered on with the battery or not? Thanks.

If you're referring to the Phantom 3, then do it like this:

If you are using a PC you'll need assistant software for the P2, the RC and a windows Driver installer. Mac computers do not need the windows driver. All the software will be in your computers download file.
If you are using a PC the first thing is to connect the P2 to the computer and load the windows drive to the P2. Without that driver nothing will work. Then you can load any ot the RC or P2 firmware updates. A word of caution don't be the first to download any new updates as you may wish you hadn't.
