DJI collecting flight data to their server through App?

You bet they do, check in the folder DJI/djipilot/cash, there is all types of folders with logs even a NFZ log and the best is a upload zip file. I don't fly in NFZs' but it's there. You don't even have to start your wifi, hell they will do it for you, we gave them permission! Too bad I am still going flying tomorrow if they want to see water and trees they can go for it! I wish I could show them mountains but we don't have any here we don't even have many people, lotsa rivers, lakes, bush and mosquitos'. Like ROD says, keep it in airplane mode

The DJI Go app (on android) runs all the time in the background - unless you "freeze" it with another app, whether you are flying or not. It maintains constant contact with DJI's servers on multiple connections/threads. Some of the connections appear to be for ads but the rest exist to upload/download info on your phone. It's been like that for a long time.
