I returned the Vision and ordered a Phantom 2 with the zen-muse h3-2d gimbal installed. I also ordered the iOSD mini and the AVL58 fpv video. My question is about interfacing all of this with the Phantom? Specifically, do I need the CAN bus as well? Is there anything else I may have overlooked? Any good resources for installing all this?

Plenty of videos how to hardwire and solder these items.

I recommend using the DJI FPV hub. Go to DJI.com and download the instructions and diagram for the hub. you will understand from there. All the connections just plug into the can bus hub and gimbal. easy as pie.
