Controller not detected for firmware update

I'm a new owner of a P2V, and have updated the firmware of the Phantom and the camera. I am now attempting to update the controller, however the Phantom2 assistant software reports that the controller is not detected.

I have opened the controller (4 screws) and attached it via the USB cable from the internal port to my PC, but the software just doesn't see it. I tried it both with the controller powered on and with it off.

What am I missing?

No actually I was using the Phantom 2 assistance. The RC assistant works, however there is an RC section in the Phantom 2 software that doesn't seem to work.

For the controller to be calibrated via the Phantom assistant the USB needs to be plugged in to the Phantom not the controller. Power up the controller and then the Phantom and you should see stick movements in the Phantom assistant.

To use the RC assistant the USB plugs directly in to the controller.

For controller firmware update you need to use RC Assistant.
