Compatible battery question from a newbie

Hi all.
I just flew my Phantom 1 for the first time today. Very cool.
Does it have to be a LIPO battery installed ? A friend if mine has these batteries like these going spare that I could have. Will they work if the connector is the right shape or does it HAVE to be LIPO ?

No on the Airsoft batteries.

LiPo is the only battery in common use to provide the power to weight ratio need for the a/c to perform properly.

You'll find that usimng any other type of cells will cause the pack to likely be too heavy or large to perform adequately.

The original type used for the P1 are not that expensive and will deliver consistent performance.
