I am wondering if changing the compass location on the Phantom body has any affect.
For example, when I am experimenting with different landing gear and have it tucked inside the shell or zip tied to an arm, or facing a "non-stock" way - does this affect bearing, etc.?
Thanks in advance for any input...

The location of the compass doesn't matter except:
- You want to avoid having it near big metal objects and electronics radiate lots of EMI [edit: and motor magnets]
- You must keep it in the same orientation.

Your best bet is to cut off the original landing gear, keeping the compass where it was and then installing your new landing gear to accompany the leftover "limb".
