I never had any problem calibrating the compass. I always do the chicken dance every time I change locations. Today no problem with calibration while holding it up. But with nose down, the camera kept twitching and never got the calibration successful message. I took off each time anyway without any issues and all Litchi missions were successful. The only thing that I touched before this was IMU calibration. Does the camera have anything to do with compass calibration? I've never seen this happen before. Anything I should do?

I read from many posts and tutorials to calibrate whenever you change locations. But others say don't since you may just confuse the compass. So which is it?

The answer will depend on who you ask.
But experience has shown that it's unnecessary to recalibrate every flight and unnecessary recalibration introduces the risk of a bad calibration.
